However, most patients have a jaw misalignment. A specially designed splint helps reposition TMJ joint and bite. Many patients are focused on TMJ symptom treatment but the underlying TMJ cause must be addressed.  massage helps the TMJ problem but does not correct the misalignment. The first step with all TMJ syndrome patients is to relieve muscle spasm and muscle pain. Ninety percent of all TMJ pain comes from muscle pain. This is an important TMJ symptom because it's the primary source of TMJ headache. Although muscles are not usually the cause of TMJ problems, their pain almost always is a patient's chief complaint. Once the jaw muscles have returned to normal, the TMJ joint itself can be properly evaluated.

Dr. Alvin Siegel and his assistant, Linda Robinson are committed to excellence in the diagnosis and management of TMJ  to provide patients with relief and resolution.  Located on either side of the face directly in front of the ears are the temporomandibular joints TMJ.  These are the hinges that connect the lower jaw to the skull. Inside the joint and held in place by tiny restraining ligaments is a small piece of cartilage- the articular disc- which cushions movement between the lower jaw and skull. Five pairs of muscles attach to the upper and lower jaw, working in harmony with the temporomandibular joints and teeth to function in the acts of chewing, talking, and swallowing. Any of these body parts can fail to function correctly causing a Temporomandibular Joint Disorder TMJ.
